Food Bank Hours:
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
10:30 am - 1:00 pm
(Doors will not be open before 10:15 am)
And the second Tuesday evening of the month
5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

With each visit, please bring with you

  • Picture ID
  • Proof of address, such as a bill that has been recently mailed to you

We provide two visits per household, per month:

When checking in for services, you will be given a "shopper card" according to your family size. The card lists the number of items you may choose in food categories such as can vegetables & fruits, proteins, grains, soups, meats, breads & pastries, and fresh produce. On your first monthly visit, you may also choose milk & eggs.


We serve residents of Black Diamond, Covington, Hobart, Maple Valley, Ravensdale and within the boundaries of the Tahoma School District.

Additional Services

Financial Assistance:

Assistance is available for utility disconnects, eviction notices, move-in costs, prescription drugs, medical bills and other emergency needs. Funding is limited each month and we will be taking applications only when funds are available. To apply for financial assistance you must submit an application at our office during regular food bank hours. Bring your disconnect notice, eviction notice or other qualifying bill to attach to your application. Priority is given to households with children, seniors and disabled.


Federal Energy Program (LIHEAP) and PSE HELP: 

We are now scheduling appointments at our site for the LIHEAP and/or PSE Help Programs. To be scheduled for an appointment at our site, you MUST call our Energy Program Line at 425-432-8139 Ext 100. We will not be making appointments in person, only through our phone line. You can also schedule an appointment through the Multi Service Center by calling their automated appointment line at 1-800-348-7144.   Income Guidelines and Documentation needed.


Holiday Food (program is currently closed)

Clients may receive a holiday meat or gift card and additional holiday food during a regular November and December shopping visit.  We encourage holiday food shopping on your 1st visit of the month to help avoid long lines at the end of the month. No registration required for clients who have accessed the food bank since July 1, 2013.

If you have not been to the food bank since July 2013 you will receive your holiday food on the second visit only and you MUST bring picture ID and Proof of Address.



Children's Christmas Gift Program: (program is currently closed)

Parents can select new gifts for their children, from birth to age 15, at our Gift Center. 

Black Diamond residents must register for gifts with the Black Diamond Community Center.

  • Our 2013 Children's Christmas Gift Center will be located in the Community Hall adjoining the Food Bank.
  • You must be a current food bank client to register for gifts.
  • Registration opens November 12 and closes December 12, 2013.
  • You will need to register in person, during food bank distribution hours.
  • At registration, you will receive an appointment time.
  • Gift Distribution is by appointment only, December 20 and December 21, 2013.

School Supply Backpack Program: (program is currently closed)

New backpacks stuffed with a variety of grade-level appropriate supplies are distributed to children entering grades K-12. Black Diamond residents, please visit the Black Diamond Community Center.

  • You must be a current food bank client to register for backpacks.
  • Registration opens July and runs through August 2014.
  • You will need to register in person, during food bank distribution hours.
  • At registration, you will receive an appointment time.
  • Backpack distribution is by appointment only, August 2014.

Outreach Programs:

Once a month on Monday, the King County Veterans' Program has an outreach worker on site to assist veterans, service members and their dependents with housing, employment, and living stability. Please call 206-296-7656 to make an appointment. When you call, specify the desire for an appointment at the Maple Valley site.

Twice each month, WithinReach comes out to assist applicants with the Washington Basic Food Stamp Program and to answer questions about DSHS services.

Once each month:

  • Washington State University, King County Extension, provides a Food Sense Program educator to share food prep skills using food bank ingredients, teaching healthful eating habits and ways to maximize the value of food dollars and food assistance benefits;
  • Crime Victim's Service Center is on site to help crime victims and their families with available resources and support services;
  • Sound Mental Health provides an outreach worker to assist homeless clients find shelter, transitional or permanent housing options;

  • The Thrive Program, through the Multi-Service Center, is also on site once a month to assist homeless adults with resources for free GED classes, job training, job placement and other support services.

In observance of the following holidays MVFB&ES will be closed:

  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • Presidents' Day
  • Memorial Day
  • 4th of July
  • Labor Day
  • Veterans Day 
  • Thanksgiving Day and the following Friday
Christmas Break for 2014:
  • Food bank will be closed December 24 - January 1.
