Serving Black Diamond, Covington, Hobart, Maple Valley, Ravensdale and within the boundaries of The Tahoma School District
Maple Valley Food Bank
Maple Valley Food Bank depends upon the generosity of individuals like you, as well as grants and gifts from foundations, community groups, businesses and governmental agencies.  Donations help hungry residents meet the on-going challenge of providing food for themselves and their families.  The challenge is great.  However, with the continued support from our friends and neighbors in the community, we are able to reduce the impact of hunger within our community.

Drivers (21 years of age and older) and Food Pickup Runners (16 years of age and up)

Weekdays and Saturdays we send out teams of volunteers into various stores in the area to pick up designated donated food and products.  The groups leave in our van and truck between 7:30 am and 8:00 am and later return to sort and crate up the goods, prepping them for our clients.  Volunteers need to be able to lift 40 pounds, as the trays/crates do get heavy.

Daily food bank operations (16 years and older)

We strive to provide a welcoming and well organized shopping experience for our clients.  Volunteers work together here in the food bank warehouse Monday through Thursday and Saturday to:

  • Clean, prep and display fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Sort canned and dry goods per category and date code
  • Repackage bulk items such as dried beans, oatmeal, rice
  • Restock the client grocery shopping line and warehouse, rotating product
  • Assist clients in food selection and grocery carry out as needed
  • Break down/remove boxes, return crates to holding area
  • Clean and sweep at shift’s end
  • Other needed tasks as requested by staff
  • Help with data entry, photocopying and various ongoing office related tasks

Home Deliveries (21 years and older)

Once each month volunteers deliver food to our homebound clients.  Volunteers prepare the individual delivery boxes, load our van and set out on a pre-established route.  Upon their arrival at each home, they warmly greet the clients and carry in the groceries.  One driver and two assistants are needed each month for these special deliveries.

Special Projects

We have the privilege of working with the community to provide a multiplicity of services. Hundreds of hours of volunteer time are logged each year just for special projects.  Volunteers are needed for:

  • Holiday Food Baskets - Sort and crate special holiday food, stage food, on distribution days assist clients with food selection and carry out, stocking, etc.
  • Children’s Christmas Gift Store - Set up special toy store for parents and guardians to choose gifts by sorting toys, decorating, stocking, and shopping with clients in our unique Christmas Gift Store.
  • Grounds Work and Food Bank Spring Cleaning - Come help us spruce up MVFB&ES' grounds on special “Clean up” days.
  • Food Drives - Conducting a food drive is a great way to volunteer and make a difference in your community.
  • Grow-A-Row - For a fun family activity, plant an extra row in your garden and donate the fresh bounty!  What a great way to share the spirit of giving.
